RE: Ever think about a lease before buying?

I would have to agree with Circled. Owning a horse is a wonderful thing but it can also get expensive and get expensive fast. Besides the every day care you need to expect those unexpected vet bills. I would also be very careful when buying, take someone with a lot of knowledge with you. There are some very nice people in the horse world but there are a lot of not so nice people who will lie to your face. I got burned when looking for a second horse. The thought of your family taking lessons or leasing for a while would be a great idea, this way you will see what is involved and learn at the same time. If it doesn't work out, you can walk away from the lease and not be stuck. However, I do understand the excitement of going out & getting your first horse. It is a wonderful experience. What county are you located in? Perhaps some of us here can give you some names of barns or people to help you. No matter which avenue you choose to go, I wish you and your family the best of luck.
