RE: I need help. I need to lease my horse but don't know anything about leasing.

There are many ways to do it, you can charge for half board, vet, shoes, etc. You can also do an on farm or off farm lease, although, personally, I would never do an off farm lease, it's a good way to wind up in court, trying to get your horse back. You also have to specify how many times the person leasing the horse can ride him per month and what he can do with him. Keep in mind that you are still liable if anyone gets hurt, so check on insurance. You can call any insurance company that specializes in animal and farm insurance and they can give you a better idea. They sent me all of the forms I needed when I started my business. Look up some people that are leasing their horses and it will usually specify what they allow, which will give you a general idea of what potential leasors expect. Just be careful and get it in writing, with a properly contract signed. You are always liable for injuries to both rider and horse. Not trying to frighten you but the call to an insurance company could really answer alot of your questions. Happy Riding.........
