Winter Blankets for the Tennesse Walkers

I have just gotten my niece her first horse a Tennesse Walker. I currently own a 19 year old belgain draft and a 11 month old painted colt. Blankets are not hard to fit for belgain and the colt, the other owners were telling me that they have been having issues with blankets digging into the withers. Does any one have any ideas or suggestion for this gaited horse. I know they have to special saddles for riding because of the way they are shape but I don't know if it is the same form blankets? Thanks so much.
