| Hi,I have a horse that had lymes treatment approx. 3 years ago. he likely had it for a year already as damage had set in such as arthritis in hocks, etc. When he was actively having symptoms,no one would test him..through a third vet practice,,a year from orig. symptoms they tested him for me..his titer was very high 10,000...I was told they have had higher and a minimum dose he needed was 90pills a day for 8weeks.. looking back I would have done iv antibiotic but he was not actively showing symptoms, that was the year before..by this time he had developed arthiritis in hocks.. he has re-lapses occasionally,I work within his means..we just do trail riding,he is 10years old and doing great..de-tox treatment he needed 2 springs ago..I was told not to re-test as he will always test positive ,although his titer count may go down and they can be re-infected as well..so if symptoms develop, they said treat for it.. I just recently found out they actually have a vaccination,,used off market as not labeled for horses which has been very successful in preventing lymes.I just found this out through my vet practice. If anyone has experience with it please let me know as I was considering getting it..I believe it is 2 parts for initial immunity, then yearly booster..it is a disease that affects every horse differently., I heard also your titer can be in 100's and a horse may exhibit lots of signs ..like I said I would treat with an IV next time if I had to do over again, otherwise I just manage the ytmptoms that occur occasionally, mostly feet or limb issues...Thanks |
