RE: Lyme Disease

My horse tested positive for lyme's disease, and after his first course AB's still tested positive. It took him 2 months of AB's to test negative. Before being treated his whole system was starting to shutdown. In the beginning we had to give him IV fluids, but once the AB's took hold he was fine. His one hock never went back to normal, so we drained it and injected cortisone 6 months after he tested negative again. He still has wierd moments of dehydration and kidneys having issues, so I always monitor his hydration and eating habits. He has never tested postive again, but something seems to flare up and cause him stiffness in the hindend and occasional "tie-up" symptoms. When he shows these signs, I give him a blood test, and sure enough his creatnine levels are high and other things that indicate kidney problems. It could be a totally seperate issue from the lyme's, but it all presented itself at the sametime back when he was first diagnosed. I am sure your horse will be fine and continue to have a normal life, just like mine. He is out there riding everyday over jumps, through the woods, and practically showing everyother weekend. He has never needed anything else injected since.
