of course i didnt mean for the horse to stand on its hind legs!!! A jumper rider would know what I mean...jump the jump, get to the corner, sit back and half halt sharply to make the horse rock back on its hind legs and collect itself and pay attention to you (as opposed to just hanging and pulling trying to get them to slow down). I have riden some VERY STRONG jumpers and asking the firm and quickly to stop works a lot better than trying to be nice and keep quietly asking them..it usually only annoys them and gets you know where. Just depends on the horse and the situation
