What is the problem you are having? Is dust the issue? If that is the case really there is not going to be much you can add that will keep the dust down. The crumbled rubber helps to retain moisture and keep the dust down longer. Stone dust added to sand can be helpful stonedust and sand mixed will help retain moisture longer to much stonedust yes will get very dusty and when will turn to concrete! Never heard of the vegtable oil thing? I would think in the warm months that would be icky as it degrades its going to have a smell and attract flies. Clay is a good base to put you're actual footing on top of but not as the footing. Clay can also get hard when it dries and become dusty and if wet especially if its really wet can be slimy. There are so many products out there now they even have chemicals now that supposedly control dust but I dont know if I would use that. We have a stonedust and sand mix we drag it weekly no matter what, but when we are watering it we dig it up with a small 2 bottom plow we water it really well then we drag it with the harrow and it comes out nice the dust stays down for about a month. If you have all sand though you should be able to water it really well then drag it.
