  4-H Horse Show & Dressage Training Series Awards
Grand & Reserve Champion awards were presented in eight different divisions.

4-H Horse Show & Dressage Training Series Awards

Over 100 4-H members, leaders and parents gathered at the 2005 4-H Open Horse Show Circuit and Dressage Training Series Awards Banquet held in November at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds in Millville. Over 250 individuals took part in one or more of the five 4-H Open Horse Circuit Shows and one or more of the three Dressage Training Series Shows. Grand & Reserve Champion awards were presented in eight different divisions.

  • In the Senior (age 19 & over) Division, Stephanie Spinelli of Vineland captured Reserve Champion and Cheryl McCormick from Hopewell Township took the Grand Champion award.
  • Nalyn Hetzell of Pittsgrove captured Reserve Champion in the Junior Division and Allie Sharp of Pittsgrove won Grand Champion. Nalyn is a member of the Pony Pals 4-H Club under the leadership of Ingrid Bergen of Vineland and Cyndy Hetzell from Pittsgrove. Allie is a member of the Trailblazers 4-H Club under the direction of 4-H leaders, Patty Burns of Vineland and Caroline Havens from Millville. Other participants in the Junior Division were Connie Smith of Vineland, Adrienne Bergen from Vineland and Kira Rottkamp from Bridgeton.
  • In the Horse Division (age 14 & under), Mallory Linn of Salem won the Reserve Champion award and Rachel Ridgway of Salem captured the Grand Champion award. Mallory is a member of the Pony Pals 4-H Club and Rachel is a member of the Trailblazers 4-H Club. Other 4-H members who competed in classes within this division were Katie Havens of Millville, Cassidy Wagner from Cedarville, Nicole Smith from Bridgeton, Lauren Bork and Emily Castellini both from Upper Deerfield, Samantha Mason of Vineland, Jessica Strang from Woodstown, Devon McAllister from Stow Creek, and Burgandy Westfield of Quinton.
  • Rachel Castellini from Upper Deerfield captured Reserve Champion in the Walt/Trot Division and Emily Ridgway of Salem took the Grand Champion award. Both Rachel and Emily are members of the Trailblazers 4-H Club. Other Walt/Trot Division participants included Jeanne Linn of Salem, Alaina Halter from Hopewell, Mandy Shindle of Rosenhayn, Briana Peters of Vineland, Carli Donaghy from Millville, and Jenna Giovinco from Mays Landing.
  • Kathy Williams of Elmer captured Grand Champion in the Gaited Horse Division and Mark Williams took the Reserve Champion Award.

Participants in the Lead Line Division were Shaelyn Halter, Nikayla Hetzell, Katie Ridgeway, Austin Smith, Karleen Wilford and Reannah Cox.

Several youth and adults participated in the Dressage Training Series.

  • In the Junior Division, Jennifer Taylor of Millville captured the Grand Champion award and Brittany Weir of Dividing Creek took the Reserve Champion award.
  • In the Intermediate Division, Adrienne Bergen won the Grand Champion award and Nalyn Hetzell took Reserve Champion.
  • Suzanne Lawrence of Bridgeton captured Grand Champion in the Senior Division and Danielle Ford took the Reserve Champion award. Caitlyn Swec of Newfield captured the Overall High Point Dressage Rider award.

Ingrid Bergen of Vineland served as the Show Secretary and Joanne Murphine from Millville was the announcer for all of the shows. Show Committee members who worked with 4-H Program Assistant, Cyndy Hetzell to plan and conduct all of the shows included Bruce & Wendy Nichols, Kurt Bergen, Kay White, Jean Jordan, Chick & Linda Costello, Robin Donohue, Barbara Newkirk, Janet & Cliff Biederman, Cheryl McCormick, Kim Mason, Denise Smith, Patty Burns, Lorraine Castellini, Susan Linn, Carolyn Havens, Gayle Emel, Ann Walton and Dawn Wilford.

Tentative dates for the 2006 4-H Open Horse Show Circuit are April 29, May 13, June 10, July 29 and September 9. Dressage Training Series Shows are set for May 7, June 4 and September 10. All shows will be held at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds on Carmel Road in Millville.

The 4-H Youth Development Program of Rutgers Cooperative Research & Extension is open to all youth in grades K-13 (one year out of high school) on an age appropriate basis, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
